Willowmere is twenty-six riverside acres on the Test Valley's quiet edge — thirty-eight homes when complete, more than half the land green for good, kingfishers most mornings. Plot 14 sits on the meadow row, the community's western edge, where the mown path turns for the jetty and the light goes long after six.
It is a four-minute amble from The Hearth (coffee Wednesdays, fish tales Fridays) and forty seconds from the good bench, which the herons treat as an event schedule.
The Rowan is the sociable one. The front door opens level from the lane — no step, no ramp, no fuss — into a hallway that takes a coat rack and an argument about boots. Left, the sitting room: dual-aspect, morning light one end and the wood-burner the other. The kitchen-dining room is the heart of it, a proper table space under the long window, with shaker units, quartz worktops, a window over the sink and herbs outside it.
The principal bedroom faces the meadow — blackout blinds fitted, dawn optional — with a level-entry ensuite shower. Bedroom two takes a double and its own view of the willows; the study takes a desk, a sofa bed, or the sewing empire. The family bathroom keeps both a bath and a level shower, because downsizing your house shouldn't downsize your soak.
The cedar deck runs the width of the home, south-west over the meadow: breakfast at the east end, everything else at the other. The garden is yours to plant — beds prepared, three pollarded willows established — and ours to mow, which is the correct division of labour. Two parking spaces sit beside the home, with EV charging fitted as standard.
The village is ten minutes on foot — flint church, farm shop, and The Mayfly on the water. Stockbridge, the Test Valley's little capital, is ten by car for the butcher, the bookshop and Thursday's market; Winchester is twenty-five for the cathedral and direct trains to London in just over the hour. The GP surgery and pharmacy are at 1.2 miles; the No. 16 bus stops at the gate.
